Welcome, friend! I'm so glad you're here. Learn more about my mission to connect with others through writing and sharing stories.
👋🏽 Hi there, I’m Ruhie!
Writer. Doctor. Mum of three. Second-generation Indian-Australian. Not to mention a recovering perfectionist & caffeine enthusiast/bordering on addict…
I am an advocate for grief. Not by choice (is it ever by choice when it comes to this subject?), but by circumstance and experience — in my line of work and as a daughter who lost her Dad to a terminal illness.
I’m also a seeker of joy and strive to spread hope.
And I’m on a journey to discover and share what makes life truly worth living.
🌈 I’m so happy you’re joining me here as I reflect on moments that have touched my heart and the valuable lessons they have taught me along the way.
What I have learnt from personal experience caring for and losing someone I loved, professional work as a doctor, and daily life as a writer and mum of three is how important it is to stop taking life for granted and make the most of the time we are given — a message I am passionate about sharing with others.
💌 Have you ever wondered what you would say to a loved one you lost if you could write to them?
Well, I have. Each newsletter here is framed as a letter to my beloved Dad, Sanjay — an ordinary man who left an extraordinary legacy after losing his battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), in 2019.
One of the hardest parts I’ve found about losing someone close to you is that life goes on without them. You continue to live and learn, laugh and cry, hurt and grow, but you can’t share any of it with them.
Here, I have cultivated a space to keep my relationship with my Dad alive even after he is gone. A way to bridge the gap between the person I was then and the person I am today.
✨ While these letters are deeply personal, they explore topics that are universal and timeless…
Love & hope
Loss & healing
Struggles & resilience
Family & parenting
Writing & creativity
And so much more.
I hope my words may:
Offer support and solace to others in a time of need
Encourage you to believe in yourself and your ability to face hard things
Challenge people to stop living on autopilot
Discover what is truly meaningful to you — what lights you up and makes life worth living, and
Inspire us all to live fully, love deeply, laugh often & make the most of the time we are given.
I truly hope that something in what I share — that something in my story — connects with you, your life and your story.
If you get value from what I share here at From the Heart to Beyond, I would be so honoured and thrilled if you subscribed so we can connect further.
If you know someone who you think would enjoy this newsletter, please consider letting them know about it:
🫶 Thanks again for being here. It truly means the world to me.
I can’t wait to connect with you!

Welcome to Substack. This platform will be richer with writers like you.
Hi Ruhie! I’m so sorry to learn of the loss of your father, and I’m glad you’re still writing about him. I’m also Indian American and am writing a memoir that has a lot to do with my dad who has dementia and Parkinsonism. Glad to have found your substack!
